POPULATION GROWTH

Brisbane LGA (local government area) had the LARGEST POPULATION GROWTH of all LGA’s in Australia during 2005-2006 up by 14,000 people. Second was the LGA of the Gold Coast up 13,600 people

Brisbane LGA had the largest population growth during 2005-06, increasing by 14,000 people(1.4%), followed by the Gold Coast, which increased by 13,600 people (2.8%)

Brisbane’s population is now 1,820,400 an increase of 29,500 people (1.6%). The city of Brisbane experienced the largest growth of all LGA’s in Australia (14,000 people). The LGA’s of Ipswich (4,200 people) and Pine Rivers (3,800 people) also recorded large growth.

The Coastal LGA of Gold Coast recorded the second largest growth of all LGA’s in Australia up (13,600 people)

QUEENSLAND’S POPULATION REACHED 4 MILLION IN DECEMBER 2005, WITH THE POPULATION GROWING BY 74,800 PERSONS (OR 1.9%) OVER THE YEAR, THE FASTEST GROWTH RATE OF ALL THE STATES AND TERRITORIES.

THE LARGEST COMPONENT OF QUEENSLAND’S POPULATION GROWTH IN 2005 WAS NET INTERSTATE MIGRATION (38.8%) OR 29,000 PERSONS. COMPARE THAT TO NEW SOUTH WALES WHICH EXPERIENCED NEGATIVE INTERSTATE MIGRATION TO THE TUNE OF 25,400 PERSONS!
